A Run a Day Keeps the Competition Away...

Tuesday, May 01, 2012 By Terrie Jackson

On Thursday, April 26, 2012, the district qualifiers from the Northshore High boys and girls track teams competed in the Louisiana 5A Region II Meet held at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. The competition was fierce, and the Panthers took on teams such as Hanhville, Walker, and Dutchtown. Since it is very difficult to win regionals as a team, the qualifiers strictly went to place in their individual events. Unlike the district meet where the top four places qualify, at the regional meet, only the top three places in each event advance to the state meet held on May 5 th , 2012. Panther qualifiers for the state meet include: Skylar Erickson (discus), Dauante Delaney (high jump and triple jump), and Fadeke Adeola (high jump). When asked about how she did, Erickson, a junior, responded, “Considering I threw one of my worst throws at regionals and was still close to the competitors, I have a positive outlook for state, but I have to continue to mentally and physically prepare this week.” Erickson placed third in Region II and, along with Delaney and Fadeke, will advance on to state May 5 th . Congratulations to the three Panther qualifiers and best of luck next week at the 5A State Meet!
