CCHS Varsity Baseball Team Tied for First in the ConferenceTuesday, May 01, 2012 By Megan Hill
Camden County High School’s baseball team has had a successful season up to this point during their conference and regular games. The baseball team is currently 6-3 in their conference, and in a four-way tie for first place with Perquimans, Riverside, and Northside. The coach of the Camden County High School baseball team is CCHS Science Teacher Mickey Drew. Drew has been head coach for six years now, and was assistant coach for eight years before that; but before coming to Camden he was head coach at a different school for four years. Drew has high hopes for a great ending to the season, but he contends it in the hands of his players. “To finish as league champs we will need to pitch and play defense at a very high level. We hope to finish well and make a strong run in the playoffs.” One of their main pitchers, Tyler Woodhouse, is a senior at CamTech High School. Tyler has been featured in the local newspaper multiple times for outstanding playing. Woodhouse contends it takes teamwork to win. “There is a lot of talent on the team, we try to work hard everyday. Our team also gets along very well. We play in a tough conference where we have to play hard on a daily basis to be successful. We practice like champions!” The entire team really plans on going far in playoffs and finishing their conference in first. The seniors especially want to do well since this is there last year on the team. The team has only come in first for conference once in the last four years. According to team members, they practice for a long amount of time and plan on doing whatever it takes to win. |
