Cheers to a New Beginning! Thursday, May 03, 2012 By Terri Jackson
The end of the school year also marked cheer tryouts for many hopeful teenage girls. Since not enough current 8 th through 11 th graders decided to tryout, the Northshore coaches and cheer sponsors made an executive decision to have one varsity team with approximately 16 to 20 girls. This made it harder for returners, as well as hopefuls, to make the new squad. After judging was complete, the coaches collaborated and ended up with a 17 girl squad. The 2012-2013 Northshore Varsity Cheerleaders include: Annie Johnson, Marissa Rizzoto, Jenna Badeux, Hannah Granger, Phoebe Castro, Kristen Bertel, Lindsey O’Neal, Charlotte Palermo, Carlee Sutton, Terrie Jackson, Gabriella Reyes, Noelle Carpenter, Kaelyn Evans, Claire Lott, Daylee Esteves, Kristine Stubbs, and Madison Doody. This is a huge down size from the whopping 31 girl squad last year. Doody, a current Boyet eighth grader , exclaimed, “I’m most excited about getting closer as a team, cheering at football games, competing, and just experiencing being a high school cheerleader.” The cheerleaders have already participated in Relay for Life and will be seen at other community and school events, such as Ashlee’s Angels Golf Tournament and the Northshore Blue and White Spring Scrimmage. The cheerleaders plan to have a very successful year and even want to travel to Disney World to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Competition. Kristine Stubbs, also a current eighth grader at Boyet explained, “I am mainly excited that I’m able to be a part of such a great team and that I get to experience doing something I love while I’m starting high school.” Make sure to look out for the 2012-2013 Panther Cheerleaders around school next year! We wish them the best of luck on a successful year. |
