Lt. John Wallace of the Amherst Fire Department has announced that the Amherst Fire Department will be starting fire hydrant testing this coming Monday, May 7, 2012. If the Fire Department pick-up truck is observed in your neighborhood, avoid the use of water particularly for washing clothes. After the flushing/testing is complete, residents should run their water for two to three minutes until the water becomes clear. Fire hydrant testing is performed to insure that all hydrants are in proper working order and to measure and record the amount of water available for fire response. Testing will be during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
