Showcase SpotlightFriday, May 11, 2012 By Caitie Burkes
On Thursday, May 10 th , at 7:00 in the evening, the Talented Theatre students put on their annual showcase, which consisted of 13 different performances from each of Ms. Lori DeWitt’s 4 theatre classes. The first play, The Secret Life of Girls, was the longest show at 45 minutes, but proved to be well worth the time it consumed. This play about bullying had interesting sound, light, and technological effects to better enhance the dramatic mood; it was performed by the 2 nd hour girls: Rebecca Hansen, Katie Clark, Lacey Wans, Lindsey O’Neal, Bali Gaffney, Lexie Henry, Caitie Burkes, Aubree Barber, Lauren O’Neil, and Kelly Onstad. Next on the program was 4 th hour’s puppet version of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by Randy Newman, from Pixar’s Toy Story. Freshmen Kaelyn Evans, Tuesday Jordan, Ashley Selzer, and Jack Stubbs lip-synched their monster-shaped puppets to the lyrics. Third hour followed with “Statues”, an original pantomime performed by Marlon Acevedo, Lexie Fiorella, and Maddie Thomassie. Another original pantomime, “Machine Works?” was put on by Gabby Boyd and Jamie Schmidt immediately after. Next was two back to back stage combat scenes; first was “It’s All About the Girl” with Mark Prendergast and Jack Stubbs, and second was “The Sneeze” with Victoria Giardina and Emma Landeche. 4 th hour went next, with the parados to Oedipus Rex , and then 3 rd hour did the choral ode to the same Sophocles-written play. After these stellar performances came a ten-minute intermission. Muppets theme song “Mah-na-Mah-na” graced the audience’s attention back to the stage with another puppet interpretation done by Lexie Fiorella, Emma Landeche, and Maddie Thomassie. Four Twelfth Night monologues from DeWitt’s 1 st hour class (juniors and seniors) were performed by Mark Robinson, Jenna Losh, Jenna Grant, and Samantha Barnes. The monologue “18 Reasons Not To Be In A Play”, executed by Jessica Black, followed. A scene from the play Proof was acted out by Jenna Grant and Samantha Barnes before the big finale: Grease. This Grease montage included all four classes, who performed the scenes and music together. It starred Michael Vivien, Lauren Bell, Jamie Schmidt, Marlon Acevedo, Aubree Barber, Bali Gaffney, Jack Stubbs, Gabby Boyd, Mark Prendergast, Jermain Worthy, and Ashley Selzer. The whole cast joined together onstage for the last song, “We Go Together.” Special acknowledgments go out to Dr. Peterson, Mrs. Yeats, Coach Jabbia, Mr. Dixon, NHS Secretarial Staff, Mr. Rock, Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Wild, and Mr. Sumrall. Without everyone working together, this showcase would have never been possible. Thank you! |
