The Trinity track Rocks took second place in the AAA Region 4 track and field Meet at North Oldham County High School. Eastern edged the Rocks 173-134. Oldham County, Ballard and Fern Creek rounded out the top five. The Rocks were led by the following regional champions: * the 3,200 relay team of Alex Noel, Sam Meredith, Blake Merkley and Nick Eckert * the 400 relay team of Dalyn Dawkins, Donald Brooks, Le'Terrious Thomas and James Quick * Tyler English in the discus with a throw of 128 feet * Merkley in the 800 (1:59) * Quick equaled his own state record edging out Ballard’s Ronnie Baker in a sprinting duel. Quick's time of 21.40 (state-best) ties his own school record for the 200. * Cody Swabek with two wins--in the high jump after going 6-2 and tying a school record by going 22 feet 3.5 inches in the long jump. Region seconds went to Eckert in the 1,600, Sam Meredith in the 3,200, Quick in the 100, the 800 relay team of Dawkins, Swabek, Thomas and Quick, and Jared Stich in the 300 hurdles. Others who scored for the Rocks were the following: Dawkins took a sixth place in the 100 while Paul Lacher finished sixth in the 400. Brendan Darrow scored a fifth place in the shot, while Noel placed fifth in the 800. English took fourth in the shot, and Thomas Albrektson placed fourth in the 3,200. The 1,600 relay team of Lacher, Noel, Merkley and Joey Shaw finished third. Next up is the state meet on May 19 at the University of Louisville. |
