Ten chorus students chosen for All-State ChoirThursday, May 17, 2012 By Meredith Gerkin
Choir Director John Maples took 10 students to the All-State Choir in Chattanooga, April 11-14. Students that went were Seniors Victoria Kerr, Allison Murray, Kaitlyn Ramirez, Allison Reid, Will Schenk, Marissa Stiles; Juniors Josh Johnson, Bianca Ley, Emma Whitt and Sophomore Haley Wines. “It was a great opportunity for our music students to get to work under outstanding guest conductors and to perform with the best high school singers in Tennessee,” said Maples. All-State Choir is an honors choir made up of students with the highest scores from across the state from the All-East Choir in October. It is made up of three choirs: men, women, and mixed. Victoria Kerr received the highest soprano score, 278.56 out of a possible 300. The scores are based on sight reading ability, pitch, tone, rhythm, diction and musicality. “I love being able to work with other people who love music as much as I do,” said Kerr. “I’ll still be pretty involved in music because I’m going to Cleveland Institute of Music in Ohio to study vocal performance.” Sophomore Haley Wines received fifth out of all the sopranos in the state. This was her first year attending, and she sang in the mixed choir. “My favorite part was getting to perform in front of everyone, and the food,” said Wines. “It was amazing.” |
