Successful authors makes a popular visit to the libraryFriday, May 18, 2012 By Abdul Hai Naqvi
Recently, three authors of young adult books – Gayle Forman, Nina LaCour and Stephanie Perkins payed a visit to the Venice Library. Forman is the author of bestseller If I Stay; LaCour’s crowning achievement is The Disenchantments; Perkins is famous for Anna and the French Kiss. The tour was sponsored by Penguin books and organized through Children’s Book World, a Los Angeles bookstore. Ms. Caroline Gill, the librarian, was very excited about it, since there was a large audience. “The last time we did it, there weren’t a lot of people,” said Ms. Gill. “But this time, a lot of people showed.” According to her, teachers became wiser to the author appearances since the last one, because only one class turned up last time. But this time, the library was full of people. Not only were students listening to the authors, but also participating in the discussion. According to Ms. Gill, the authors’ appearance boosted interest in the books, so much so that the books are hardly on the shelf for more than a day. And, the authors didn’t go empty-handed either. They sold at least $300 worth of books. |
