Prom : A Night in WonderlandThursday, May 24, 2012 By Rizel Pizarro
As evening broke on Friday night, it ushered in a night that would bring with it a last high-school moment to dance the night away, take pictures with friends and create memories that will last forever. Yes, prom had arrived, and the smell of rented tuxedos, corsages and limousines was in the air. From picking the perfect dress to making dinner reservations, it takes a lot to pull off the big night that guys and girls alike will remember forever. Twenty years ago, proms meant stuffy gyms, ruffly gowns and warm punch but, in today’s world, prom takes on a much glitzier form with buffets, impressive gowns, and hotel ballrooms. The 2012 Paint Branch Prom was held at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center at the University of Maryland, with the theme "A Night In Wonderland." The center included a much larger venue than in previous years, and the bigger dance floor created a lively atmosphere that was fun and hot. While the DJ played popular hits, everyone had the choice to step outside, talk with friends, dance or just eat. Regarding what she felt the highlight of prom was, Sheneika Richards said, "I think the whole night was the highlight; we had a whole bunch of fun at prom and After-Prom." After four hours of enjoyment, those in attendance had the option to continue the party at After-Prom, where they could stay with friends and also play games, eat more food and win some incredible prizes. With the grand prize giveaway of an iPad New Generation, everyone was ready to stay up late to their hearts’ desire. While the night seemingly took forever to arrive, those in attendance felt that the evening actually flew by and ended before they even knew it. As the last dances finished, the last games played, and the last morsels eaten, prom night 2012 came to a close and so to did the most-lavish event of the year. |
