School DancesThursday, May 24, 2012 By Justin Bickett
What an awesome year! We have so many memories of this year and we use them to make the next year better. One of the memories would be the dances the school put on. There was about five dances that were thrown. I only went to one and when I was there I saw very little people; no more then 50. There was about half of the people dancing and the other standing around saying “This dance is so boring.” What could we do to make these dances better? I decided to investigate. I started by talking to the man in charge, Mr. Hamann. The first question I asked was, “How much does a typical dance cost all together?” He said “about $300.” He also stated, “We put dances on to raise money for an event like our choir trip.” I then asked, “So the charge to get in needs to make enough to make profit and yet cover the expenditures as well? Is there a way we could make the dances better atmosphere wise?” His response was, “As long as it fits the budget that is in between $300-$400.” I then spoke with some of the students around the school. I talked to three people, two of them go to dances and one doesn’t. The first person was Marshal, who doesn’t go to the dances. I asked him “What would you expect going to the dance?” His response was, “I would like to see lots of decorations and lights with good popular music as well.” The second person I talked to was Noah Rocholl. I asked him the same question and he said, “We need to get more people dancing instead of standing around.” I told the last person I interviewed was Kevin Forer, and he said, “The dancing needs to get better, though I feel like I am back in an elementary class when I dance. The Underwood dances are a lot different than Fergus dances.” I told all of this information to Mr. Hamann to see if it would work. He said “the lights and decorations would work but I don’t know about the dancing. The dancing needs to be appropriate for school.” In conclusion, I think that if we want the dances to be better we need to get more decorations, more lights, and better music for the people to enjoy the dance. To cover the cost all we would have to do is raise the entrance fee a little but in my mind it would be worth it to be at the coolest school dances around. |
