Band and orchestra hold their final concertsFriday, June 01, 2012 By Rebecca Noeske
With the school year coming to a close, Central’s bands and orchestra completed their final school concerts for the year. On May 16, all the concert bands, including wind ensemble, symphony band, concert band, and jazz band, held their final concert at 7 pm in Central’s auditorium, where they performed a wide variety of songs for the audience. “It went very well,” said band student and junior Madeline Surace, before the concert. “Our hard work paid off and everyone did great.” The following evening, May 17, the orchestra completed their final concert in the auditorium as well. They played several slow to medium tempo songs, including Slavonic Dance, Mountain Spring, Viotti Concierto, and a Phantom of the Opera Medley. They also performed one faster paced song to Marriage of Figaro. “Overall I think we did a good job,” said orchestra student and junior, Mackenzie Coden. “Everyone has improved so much over the course of the year, and we were able to show it off.” Both the bands and orchestra put a lot of time and effort into ensuring that their final concert be a successful one. “We’ve been practicing a lot for this final concert,” said Surace. “Actually, we’ve be practicing and putting in a lot of hard work all year long.” Regardless, orchestra and band students feel bitter sweet about the year coming to a finish. “It’s been a great year and we’re all proud of what we’ve accomplished musically,” said Coden. “It’s just sad to see it all coming to an end.” |
