Cry of the Hawk
Maine place for lobsterMonday, June 04, 2012 By Kaitlyn Moretz
Maine is a state that embraces extremes: extremely cold winters, extremely hot summers, and extremely crazy lobster fans. Lobster is a state specialty in Maine, and the residents take this very seriously. Mainers host the annual Maine Lobster Festival on August 1-5, located at Rockland’s Harbor Park, is celebrating its 65th anniversary this summer. Visitors can go and enjoy events such as the cooking contest, parade, lobster crate race, and see the coronation of the 2012 Maine Sea Goddess. Maine is also the home to several famous restaurants, such as The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, which is famous for its appearance on Travel Channel’s Food Wars . They won best lobster roll against their rival, Alisson’s Restaurant. There are millions of other things to do than satisfy cravings, however. Watch out for moose in Acadia National Park- or whales if going on a whale watching cruise, and take in the beauty of the lighthouses that are all along the coast. Even take friends and family to the annual Christmas in July celebration on the 29th in Kennebunkport. |
