Nickerson State Park - Brewster, MA

Monday, June 04, 2012 By Macy Lipkin

Every August, I go camping at Nickerson State Park in Brewster, MA, on Cape Cod. I go with my mom, my brother, and my dog, but some of our friends usually visit. The car ride is about an hour and a half, and the car’s filled with our table, grill, tent, and other supplies -but the cramped ride is so worth it! We usually stay there for about four weeks. Nickerson is littered with pine needles, and strong, welcoming forests and kettle ponds. I bring my bike and head to the 22-mile CCRT (Cape Cod Rail Trail), or go for a swim in the warm lake. At night, we roast marshmallows for s’mores and cook veggie burgers and veggie dogs (meat-free)! In the mornings, we make pancakes for breakfast and wake up at 10:00. Also, the Cape Cod National Seashore hosts workshops for kids over the summer, so I’ve dissected a squid multiple times, and then written in its ink. We also bike to the Nauset and Coast Guard beaches and ride the waves on boogie boards. I think it would be mean to tell you guys to register today, because you can’t. Nickerson is so awesome that you have to reserve your campsite six months ahead of time - to the minute! Reservations fill up so quickly that they close as soon as they open. Definitely put Nickerson State Park on your list of, "Places to Go Someday!"
