Looking back on my high school experience, there were a few things I knew I would never miss: the late night cramming, the hellish AP tests, the crippling amount of sleep deprivation, and the math homework I couldn’t possibly understand to name just a few. Every time I grappled with any of those issues, I was certain that high school was a waste of time. But, in these past couple months I started looking at high school in a whole new light. I began to understand that my experiences at University High School had shaped my personality and molded my character. The friends I made and the teachers I had all left an indelible mark on me. While I was busy counting down the seconds until graduation day, I did not realize how many inspiring individuals I had encountered during my time at this school. I guess what I am trying to say is that I might have taken high school a little for granted. The teachers ready to provide answers to all of my questions and willing to stay after school to help with any problem will forever stay in my memory. One of those teachers is Ms. Kokino, the driving force behind the journalism program. Her devotion to our student publication continues to inspire me and I hope to carry that sense of dedication wherever I go next. I could not possibly name all of the friends and classmates that I hold dear and that influenced me in more ways that I can count. I will never again be in an environment filled with such creativity, diversity and friendship as I at University High. I know that each one of my unique classmates is destined to do great things as long as they keep the enthusiasm and the curiosity we all shared in the years spent at Uni. To the underclassmen: enjoy every day because the years will fly by faster than you can imagine. One moment you’ll be stressing out about what to wear on your first day, and the next you’ll be throwing together your Senior portfolio wondering where the time went. High school is the only time in your life where mistakes are expected, and you really begin to see what your future can hold. You will make friends that will last a lifetime and create the foundation for your higher education. As stressful, awkward and tough as high school might be, those four years will be the most important years of your development. Make sure you seize the potential of each day you have ahead of you at University High School. |
