Dropping Knowledge

Wednesday, July 11, 2012 By Brittany Hamer

So we all know that in Wisconsin the kids go to school for nine months and have three months off in the summer. So what happens to all that the kids learn during the school year? Seven out of eleven teens say that they feel that they lose some knowledge over the summer. In addition five out of eleven kids say that they do have to relearn things when they go to school in the fall and three out of eleven say that they have to refresh their brains. “ I have to dig it up again for the school year,” says Kylee Radulovich, “because I forget most of what I learned last year.” While seven out of eleven teens say that they lose knowledge, six out of eleven teens say that they do attend some kind of summer school and do try to do things that keep up what they learned in school. Lots of teen say they read during the summer which helps to keep their brains going and also improves their vocabulary. Most teens that are in languages tend to keep up what they learned in school. “I talk to friends in French and Spanish to practice,” says Hailey Jett.
