Wednesday, April 06, 2005 By Robert Sierra

On April 7, 2005, International Latino artists will come together to pay tribute to Tejano music star, Selena Quintanilla. ¡Selena Vive! Will take place in Houston, and will be a three hour long tribute concert. Gloria Estefan, Thalia, Pepe Aguilar, Carlos Vives, Banda el Recodo, Alicia Villareal, Aleks Syntek, lucero, Ana Gabriel, Fey, India, Pepe Astudillo, Montez de Durango Jay Perez, Intocable, and the Kumbia Kings are a few of the stars lined up to pay tribute to Selena. The event will be covered live by Univision Television Network, from the Reliant Stadium. Selena held her last concert at the Astrodome in front of over 69,000 fans, just a few week prior to her death, making the location of the concert in Houston even more special. San Antonio, and Los Angeles were both considered for the concert to be held at, because the two hold a large population of Latinos. Mayor Bill White said “Houston is proud to host this tribute to the memory of Selena, a great entertainer and a role model for so many. We can hardly believe it has been so long since she left us, but we are excited to help celebrate her life and her spirit.” Selena’s family is grateful to all who have helped put together this event, and helped keep the memory of Selena alive. Abraham Quintanilla, Selena’s father, said, “I promised to keep my daughter’s memory alive through her music. And now, ten years later, this event is a fitting celebration of not only her music, but her life, as well.” Proceeds from the concert will go towards ten scholarships for students looking to pursue higher education at Texas Universities. Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding Selena’s death, the concert will celebrate her life, and her music career. For those who cannot attend the concert, it will be shown live on Univision starting at 7pm on April 7. Tickets for the concert soon go on sale on March 14. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster, including stores such as Foley’s, Fiesta, and some select FYE stores.
