The Golden Girls competed on Feb 5, at the International Dance Challenge in Fort Lauderdale. “It was an intense, long day, but in the end they placed in the top three for all their routines,” said sponsor Monica Garcia. In the High Kick and Lyrical competition the girls received the “Golden Champion” for second place award. The High Kick was named Entertainment Challenge of the night, as well as winning the prestigious Rockettes of Tomorrow ribbon. The Golden Girls competed against 238 routines, and still managed to steal the spotlight the entire time. In the Jazz, Hip Hop and Modern dance they received the “Sterling Silver Champion” award for third place. Special congratulations to Captain Vanessa Bustos, junior in placing fourth out of 23 contenders for her solo. Recently the Golden Girls competed at the Star Systems National Talent show. Once again they outshined their competition. In the area of Lyrical, they placed fifth, for modern dance they placed fourth, their hip-hop routine placed second, and their high kick routine placed first. Garcia was honored with the Top Teacher Award. She received a handsome plaque, a jacket, and $147 to use toward the improvement of her team The Golden Girls consists of 21 incredibly talented and dedicated dancers. Monday through Friday from 1:05-4:05pm they can be found stretching, dancing, exercising and perfecting their routines in order to provide all the students of MSSH entertainment they can be proud of. They represent the best of MSSH. These girls love what they do and are able to express themselves through their dancing. “I am proud to have a team that is so hardworking and motivated,” said Garcia. The Golden Girls will be competing later this month at the MA regional dance competition in Lakeland. |
