Celebrity Breakups on the RiseWednesday, December 14, 2005 By Kayla Miller
Kaput. Dunzo. Finished. Ended. Ruined. Wrecked. These are all words and synonyms of breaking up. Breakups seem to be the biggest trend in Hollywood for 2005. Lots of celebrities either ended marriages in divorce or simply called off their engagements. When it comes to marriage, some celebrities just don’t understand the concept that it’s a lifelong commitment and is to last forever. Recently, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey officially separated. “After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is a mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other,” the two said in a joint statement released by their publicists. Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt also ended their four and a half year marriage in divorce earlier this year. Apparently marriage doesn’t mean anything to anybody anymore, especially celebrities. As divorces are becoming more and more common in Hollywood, the message is being sent out that marriage really isn’t a long term commitment and divorce simply isn’t a big deal. However, this is not true of all celebrities. Some break up before they make a lifelong bind. Paris Hilton recently called off her engagement with Paris Latsis claiming that she just wasn’t ready for marriage yet. She actually auctioned off her diamond engagement ring for $4 million to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Kimberly Stewart and Laguna Beach star Talan Torriero also broke off their engagement only 11 days after announcing their future wedding. “It was just too soon to enter into a lifelong commitment,” they said in their released joint statement. “It is better to have a brief engagement than a brief marriage.” |
