Another exciting Red CarpetThursday, March 09, 2006 By Cristina Trentacoste (‘08)
On Sunday, people all over the country gathered around their televisions to watch Hollywood’s biggest night: the Oscars. But before America could see who would take home Mr. Oscar, they watched the real show, the red carpet. Celebrities chose their favorite designers to create masterpieces in which they could strut down the red carpet. Designers held their breath as they designed their dresses, hoping to please the stars and have an approving audience on the red carpet. “If I were on the red carpet, I would wear Versace because many of the well-dressed stars have worn Versace to the Academy Awards,” said Kaitlyn Alexander (‘08). For designers, it’s always a challenge to top the beautiful, flowing gowns of last year, but some way, they manage to achieve it. “The best dressed was Reese Witherspoon, I loved how her dress was class and original at the same time,” said Alison Bogdonoff (‘08). Reese Witherspoon, winner of Best Actress award, wore a beautiful Christian Dior gown. She looked dazzling in her white, jeweled, vintage dress that was complimented by a simple up-do; she definitely took everyone’s breath away. Presenter Jennifer Aniston wore a divine black Rochas dress, which showed the audience her toned arms and flowing, straight light brown hair beautifully. It was hard for the audience to take their eyes off of her gorgeous necklace, which also seemed to add a little something to her gown. Designer Vera Wang had a lot to be proud this year since both Keira Knightley and Michelle Williams left the crowd in awe with their sophisticated and glamorous dresses. Keira Knightley added a 1960s Bulgari necklace to her magnificent ensemble. Keira always looks sensational, but with her asymmetrical, one strap burgundy gown, she will definitely top the best- dressed list. Michelle Williams, also in Vera Wang, wore a deep yellow chiffon, low cut dress, which made her pale complexion look even lovelier. Versace, perhaps the greatest fashion genius of all time, should also feel satisfied with her tremendous creations that graced the red carpet this year. Presenter Jessica Alba looked flawless in her gold Versace dress that displayed her amazing figure. Uma Thurman wowed the audience once again in her long white dress, as it showed her figure beautifully, yet still gave her a modest look. For once, few celebrities went overboard on the dresses. Charlize Theron definitely took a fashion chance on her dramatic Dior couture dress that was specially shipped directly from the Dior fashion house in Paris. But the real question at hand is, was the bow on her should too much? Although Naomi Watts always looks amazing, her Givency gown did create a variety of reactions from the critics, for some believed her to look as beautiful as ever in her peach- toned gown, while others felt that it was definitely a mistake. The 2006 Academy Awards showcased the work of the most talented designers, all of whom created luxurious gowns which the A-list celebrities wore in amazing style. The women of Hollywood displayed their great fashion sense as well as their poise and confidence, showing America what it means to be a true Hollywood royalty. Overall, this year was a fashion success for both the designers and the celebrities, and it’s hard not to wish we were all as glamorous as these revered women that so effortlessly glide down the infamous red carpet. |
