Clover High School participated in Relay for Life Saturday, May 5, at York Middle School to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Clover High School’s Relay team leader is LeAnn Mellon.  The team raised over $5,000 for Relay for Life.  To raise the money before the occasion, CHS held a lunchout for students, teachers could dress down on Wednesdays for five dollars, and sold luminaria.  At Relay for Life, Clover High held a cornhole tournament and ran the children’s activities.

Relay for Life is one event that is put on by the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer research.  It also celebrates the survivors in the area and shows the community support for an illness that effects most people’s lives in some way.  The day started off with Maureen OBoyle and Al Conklin from WBTV to meet and congratulate the survivors in Western York County.  Other special guests, Cocky from the University of South Carolina, Rufus from the Charlotte Bobcats, and Sir Purr from the Carolina Panthers were there.  Many dance studios, bands, and cheerleading squads also performed at Relay.  The events started at one p.m. and lasted until one a.m.

LeAnn Mellon has been involved with Relay for Life since 2006.  She says:

It is an organization that is very important to me.”

This year Mrs. Mellon began organizing Clover High School’s team in January.  A lot of preparation was needed to make this organization a success.  Clovers team, the Cancer Wreckin' Crew, will participate next year.
