For fans of the Harry Potter series, the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I was the beginning of the end of a generation. Over the past ten years, the seven books have been turned into eight movies, and the fans are still begging for more. Deathly Hallows Part I came out on November 19th, however many CFHS students were waiting the night of the 18th to get a first glance at midnight. Fans of all ages dressed up as their favorite characters to see the midnight premere. Some dressed as Harry, Hermoine or Ron, while others became more creative and dressed as the feared Death Eaters with the “dark mark” on thier arm. Wands, robes and Hogwarts ties were everywhere to be found amongst the fans eagerly waiting for the film to begin. The seventh book in the series was extensive with action, friendship romance, and many new tales allowing readers into the magical world of Harry Potter, including more information on characters, legends, and locations. The film follows the book closely, however it needed to be split into two parts in fear of it becoming too long, or it losing critical details in the story line. When watching this movie, the viewer becomes more knowledgeable about Harry, Ron and Hermoine with romances growing and arguments putting strains on their friendship. The journeys they take are not like others in the Harry Potter series. This film was the first that didn’t include the castle being depicted as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, since the battles and other escapades were taken throughout London and the magical world. Since the first part of the book was mostly an introduction to their journey to defeat Voldemort and his Death Eaters, the film followed closely in that path setting up anticipation for the second part of the film. Although the action in the first film is not as intense as the action anticipated in the second film, it still keeps viewers on the edge of their seat, with a few comic reliefs thrown in, and even creating a few sniffles among the crowd. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I made $125.1 million in it’s opening weekend, making it into the top five opening weekend profits of all time. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II opens July 15, 2011.
