The feeling of being judged before understood, being sentenced before a trial, or even avoided before known are the feelings that some people experience everyday. When these things happen it becomes necessary for us to rid ourselves of the source, the person making things so hard for everyone. Prejudicial feelings need to be put aside.
Self-respect, happiness, and comfort are what we give to ourselves to make it through the day. Prejudicial thoughts, actions, and words are the things that destroy our hearts and minds.
We must protect our rights with everything in us, whether it means putting up a wall or simply ignoring the person who tries to take them, the person trying to beat down the defenses about our hearts. When we don’t protect our rights, our minds riot and we suffer, spiraling into a pit of despair from which the only return is a kind word or thought from another, someone to contradict the awful judgment that was placed upon us from someone who may not understand.
Our rights are violated on a day to day basis by people that lay down their accusations and judgments without knowing our full story. We must be patient with those around and try to bring knowledge to them so they may know how to avoid causing harm to someone again.
Other people are not our only concern. We attack ourselves through this horrible way of thinking and often avoid things or situations that may bring us joy, maybe walking away from the love of our lives because of their skin color or accent. Lots of things are ripped from us when we don’t take the time to understand full situations and no one really knows what is gained. It is so incredibly hard to undermine our basic instincts and do something otherwise.
Defying prejudicial thoughts is the hardest but most gratifying task we can accomplish in our lives, whether it be educating someone that may not understand or teaching ourselves to open our minds and hearts.
