A much-anticipated show is finally here. From its meaningful moments, trendy fashion, and sarcastic scenes Life Unexpected offers the best qualities anyone can get. The first time I saw the preview of this show it made me want to watch it because of its storyline and good choice of characters. Admittedly, as I waited for the show to begin and counting the minutes until it started it was like waiting for the ball to drop for New Years day. Life Unexpected features topics like teen pregnancy, being in the right crowd in high school, parenting, and love which is all the reasons to watch a show like this one. It starts off with the main character, a fifteen-year-old girl who is a foster child. Her mother Cate Cassidy (Shiri Appleby) is a radio host for “Morning Madness” while her father “Baze” (Kristoffer Polaha) owns an unstable bar and lives in a loft above it. And to further complicate the show, Cate is engaged to her co-host Ryan (Kerr Smith). We learn that Lux (Brittany Robertson) was conceived on a one-night stand, Cate believed that leaving Lux at the orphanage was the right decision. Little did she know Lux had heart problems when she was a baby leading her to move house to house up to countless foster homes until she was under the custody of her birth parents. Lux met her birth parents considering she needed their signatures to become an emancipated minor. Her plan was to run off with her boyfriend Bug (Rafi Gavron) and friend Tash (Ksenia Solo) and use their money to live on their own. Unfortunately, the judge wouldn’t allow the emancipation to pass. Instead, the judge placed Lux under the supervision of her birth parents. She was shocked to find out that her birth mother of all people was Cate Cassidy who played an important role in her life while she was in the foster homes. She listened to that station for her comfort every morning or whenever she felt down. Certainly with the amount of time they had, both parents did not have a place for her to stay. Knowing that Baze is irresponsible Cate welcomes Lux to live at her house. Just like a divorce couple they take turns taking care of her. Baze drops and picks her up from school every morning and Cate looks after her during the day and night. This whole show revolves around Cate and Baze being able to take care of their child Lux. This show is full of humorous lines and their acting makes it seem more realistic. Life Unexpected is similar to shows like 90210 and Gossip Girl, which deal with family problems and the ongoing events of being a teenager. Everyone can connect to this teenager who has been misunderstood most of her life because adolescents have been in her situation numerous times. This comical yet serious drama engages its audience by relating to problems including the hardships of growing up and how life can truly surprise you with its twist and turns. You can watch Life Unexpected on CW (ktla) every Monday at 8P.M. before One Tree Hill.
