As we patiently wait in line at the student store, there are always a few things that catch our attention when it comes to the different variety of food they have to offer. The Double Chocolate Cookies, the brownies, and all the other forms of “dieted” foods they have. Was there really a purpose to taking out junk food and sodas in school when schools still sell DOUBLE the chocolate in their cookies? We see no difference in it whatsoever. In fact, it seems as if the food they are selling in Carson High is subtly getting worse.

How so? One thing the food products our school have in common is the sugar. It’s not the amount of sugar, but the fact that majority of the products are sweet already implies that there is some form of sugar in the product. Since when has sugar become healthy? For instance, take into consideration the Florida Natural Fruit String Snacks they sell in the student store. Natural Fruit Snacks? We object! If such things were natural, flakes of powdered and frosted sugar wouldn’t be used as the coating for the fruit snack itself. If fruits are already naturally sweet, it is now twice as deadly with more sugar being added onto its outside. No wonder majority of the kids in this school who munch on that always end up being hyper.

Next are those deadly double chocolate chip cookies they sell. DOUBLE THE CHOCOLATE IN A COOKIE. There is no need for further explanation for such a cookie’s name because if too much of normal chocolate chip cookies are bad enough for you, then double the chocolate is even worse. As we asked our peers as to what they prefer, (chocolate chip or double chocolate chip) 80% prefers the double chocolate chip cookie. Even if the 20% chose the normal chocolate chip cookie, if chocolate is still involved in some way, then it is unhealthy, this, junk food still isn’t banned all the way.

Cheez its, Brownies, and Kettle Corn, what is all of this? If the District completely bans any form of junk food, no matter how low the calories, carbohydrates, cholesterol may be, then that’s when we will start believing that the school board has completely reformed its ways into making the schools food healthier in its nutrients. If they enforce salad, and only salad to be consumed in schools, then props to the school board for making a very effective change in its schools (less consumers though, less money). Because as of right now, junk food is still here, it’s not about as to what they THINK dieted and “healthier” food is, it’s about what really is inside the product itself.
