Our school is working on setting up student email addresses so the students will be able to communicate with their peers and teachers whenever needed.

Epals will be a communication through email where students can talk to teachers and students about anything they need to talk about. The system is set up where a teacher monitors what students are sending, so when a student sends a message, the program scans the words for any words that are inappropriate for school. Then, the teacher who monitors the emails will see that the message has been flagged and then will read it and see if they can approve it to be sent or if they have to deny it.

On Epals, the students only have rights to email people within the Epals domain and the MWCSD domain, so no other emails can be sent or received. Although, the school plans on eventually being able to allow students to email colleges and things of that nature.

The school wants students to have an Epals account for email, so they can educate the students for the real world, since the real world uses email in order to communicate about all sorts of stuff. Mr. Prusinowski states that, "by providing email will be teaching students the positives and negatives of using them and the key features."

Most of the ninth graders already have their Epals account set up and the school is in the process of getting the sophomores and juniors using it as well.
