“If you want to maintain democracy,” junior Sarah Burns said. “You have to have a society that knows about government.”
Juniors Kaitlyn Murphey, Megan Patrick and Burns qualified to be in Girl’s State.
“Girl’s State is a great opportunity for girls who want to get involved in their society and community,” Patrick said. “It will also encourage leadership.”
Girl’s State is a mock government that gives an inside look at how the government works.
Participants for Girl’s State will be going to the University of Arizona for one week in the summer to gain a more hands-on experience of how the government works.
Girl’s State is also nationally acclaimed.
“It is beneficial to me,” Burns said. “It’s important to know how society works and I may want to go into government.”
Qualifying for Girl’s State could mean a chance for scholarships and college credit.
“It looks great on a resume,” Murphey said. “It also helps you to become a contributing member of society when you’re older.”
