The security guards have a new member, temporily filling in for Maria Cubas, who is recovering from shoulder surgery.
Jackie Mutchler, the school Secretary said that Cubas is doing ok, and she hopes to start again in the beginning of January, but the doctor has to clear her first. She has been going to therapy three times a week.
The shoulder injury she received was work related to an incident that occurred about a year and a half ago at Sunrise, according to Clay Carpenter, the assistant principal.
“I haven’t seen Maria in a couple of weeks,” Carpentar said. “When I did see her, I just talked to her briefly.”
Until Maria Cubas returns, Yvette Rideo will be taking over, making sure that students do not ditch, walk over the red line at lunch and behave themselves. So far though, she has a positive opinion of Sunrise.
“The students are nice and friendly,” Rideo said, “They are a good group of people.”
Thankfully, Rideo has not had to deal with any bizarre or injury-causing situations.
“Nothing out of the ordinary has happened…yet,” Rideo said, “It’s just been the usual.
Studends are late for class or not in class when they are supposed to be.”
This is Rideo’s first time working at a high school. She is usually working at Mountain Side Fitness with Jan Wintermeyer, another security guard.
“Jan told me about the position they had open,” Rideo said.
Wintermeyer thinks that Rideo has been doing a great job with interacting with the students and doing her job to the fullest.
“She’s shown that she’s dependable and responsible,” Wintermeyer said, “She has good people skills and has done all she’s been asked to do.”
Carpenter agrees very much with Wintermeyer in that Rideo has been doing a fine job.
“She’s been doing a good job,” Carpenter said. “She comes on time. It’s nice having an extra person.”
