Six seniors—Peter Keefe, Matt Dale, Ben Sattler, David DiPasquale, Tom Lee and Paul Sekar—vied for the title of Mr. Methacton on March 9. Keefe, whose brother Michael took runner up in the 2009 contest, won the crown.

“I had a good chance of winning this year. There wasn’t a lot of competition, but everyone was very talented, and I am honored to come out on top,” said Keefe.

Mr. Methacton is an all-male, senior pageant during which contestants attempt to impress judges in four different categories: casual wear, talent, formal wear, and question and answer.

Strictly for entertainment value, the group must also dance together during the evening’s opening act. This year’s dance, choreographed by members of FCCLA, was to a mix of modern pop songs, including “International Love,” “One 2 Step,” “Turn me On,” “Never say Never,” and “2012.”

During round one’s casual wear runway walk, Mr. Nathaniel Ryan and Mr. Koons, the evening’s hosts for four years running, read the contestants’ biographies, including their college plans, hobbies, talents and interests.

The talent portion of the show featured singing, dancing, instrumentals and sewing. That’s right, sewing.

Sattler, this year’s runner-up, transitioned from a short knitting skit into a stand-up comedy routine that largely concerned airplane travel. His oration of “The Dougie,” originally by Cali Swag District, won over the audience at the end of his bit.

Dale not only got some love from the audience for his original rap, but he, while armed with a bouquet of flowers, got some love from his girlfriend who said “yes” on stage to his prom proposal.

The newest Mr. Methacton, Keefe, strutted on stage while singing “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz.

Other highlight performances included Sekar’s piano ballad from the film “Inception” and Lee’s mix of interpretive and hip hop dancing to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift and a mixture of “Teach me how to Jerk” and “Teach me how to Dougie” respectively.

During the night’s formal wear segment, sponsored by the Men’s Warehouse, the six contestants once again took to the runway while the hosts added more tidbits of information about the candidates.

Finally, the judges made their final decisions based on the answers offered by the hopefuls to random, hand-picked questions.

One question, for instance, was “If you could have three people over for dinner, who would they be and why?” Keefe, who fielded that question, said one of his choices would be the group of five seniors against whom he was competing.

The annual event was hosted by FCCLA and Student Council, sponsored by Mrs. Janssen and Mrs. Brennen/Mrs. Fabrizio respectively.
