Abbey
Watson, a thirteen year old girl from Colorado,
has set 28 records, eight which are world records. Abbey exclaimed, “I once
lifted 125 lbs. and I was blown away, but now I’m like psh, that’s light.” Abbey
started weightlifting when she was ten years old. Her dad took her to the Defy
Cross Fit Gym in Broomfield.
“I did one of the workouts and I loved it, so I started coming”. Abbey has been
faithful ever since. She gets up at 5:30 Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and
works out till seven. Abbey’s trainer, Johathon Sabar, said that there is one
thing that she has on her side. "I think the
reason Abbey is lifting weight that surpasses adults is because she's never
been told she can't do it." Sabar believes that weight lifting using the
proper techniques doesn’t affect growth. “Time and time again the idea comes up
that weight lifting stunts your growth, and time and time again it is proven
wrong.” Abbey hopes to be able to make it to the Olympics.
