Members of Arrowhead’s North Choir have the unique opportunity to sing with Waukesha Symphony this holiday season.
Every three years, Arrowhead’s choir is invited to perform. On December 2nd, singers will travel to Carroll College’s Shattuck Auditorium to perform.
This will be the fifth time Cathy Pfeiler and Nancy Jorgenson, the two choir directors, will have the honor of taking North Choir to perform. However, this year the largest number of students ever, approximately 150, are singing. “This is the biggest choir, and everyone will be impressed,” exclaimed Pfeiler. “It will be glorious.”
How did Arrowhead happen upon this opportunity? “We have a reputation for singing difficult literature,” explained Jorgenson. This year, the entire second half of the concert will be devoted to the choir. Songs include “Hallelujah,” “Hallelujah Chorus,” “What Sweeter Music Can We Bring,” “Mary’s Lullaby,” “For Unto Us a Child is Born,” and various Christmas carols. For the first time, the choir will be featured without the symphony for “Hark How the Bells,” in which students will be playing hand bells.
Pfeiler and Jorgenson are excited about this years performance. Particularly, Pfeiler commented, “Every year I get a chill when the orchestra starts the Hallelujah Chorus.”
The students and orchestra will be under the direction of Alexander Platt. On Monday, November 24th, he will visit Arrowhead to meet and rehearse with the students. Students will practice with the orchestra on December 1st to become accustomed to the arrangement for the instruments.
It will be an experience of a lifetime for students and is a greatly anticipated event for all.
