At-a-glance

Arrowhead, the first school from Waukesha County to win a division one basketball championship in 64 years, is two months from graduating basketball star Ben Mills.  Mills will be the second ever Arrowhead player to play at a D-1 college, according to Coach Haase.

Mills is still uncertain about where he wants to go, but he has over 30 offers to consider.  Some of the schools in consideration for the center are Boise State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Oregon State, and Butler.  He was committed to Boise, but after the head coach was fired, Mills asked for release.

“Winning the championship this season was the perfect way to go out.  During my time here, we have always had a strong team, but this year was just better,” Mills said.  “Winning the championship definitely will help me in the competitive college games.”

Ever since he was a kid, going undefeated from fifth through seventh grade and winning three AMSAC championships, Mills has been in love with basketball.  Whether he was playing pick-up games on the driveway or 3-on-3 at the YMCA, he was constantly working.

“Basketball has always been my passion, and with my height, it is kind of obvious.  At Swallow and at Arrowhead, I have loved every second of it,” Mills said.  “I can’t wait to play at college. Well, once I pick a college.  I know it will be great.”

Mills averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds during the state title run.  He was a force offensively and defensively, blocking shot after shot.  At seven foot one, shooting jump shots is usually a tough task.  Not for Mills.  He shot around 70 percent from the free throw line and would even step back for fifteen footers every now and then.

Being nationally recognized, and being literally looked up to by nearly everyone, Mills has made his mark.  The only remaining step is college.

“I have loved it here, but I still cannot wait to play in college,” Mills said.  “I feel ready for it.  We will see what happens.”
