Athletes of all events came together on Eastern Michigan’s Bowen Field House for the 2012 Michigan Indoor Track States on Feb. 25. States proved successful for the handful of P-CEP students that qualified and competed. For individual events, they ran unattached to a team. For relays, they could form their own team or work with a track club.
Plymouth senior William Askew II ran in an individual event and two relays. Askew took second place in the 200m dash with a time of 22.52 seconds. Later, he participated in two relays with his track club, Maximum Output. The first was a 4X200m relay. The team came in first place with a time of 1:29.50, winning the race by less than a second. In the 4X400m relay, they placed third with a time of 3:26.64.
Reagan Engstrom, Plymouth senior, tied for 9th in the state for pole vault. She also tied her personal record (PR), vaulting a height of 10 ft. 9in.
“Now I have the whole spring season to focus on improving instead of having to focus on getting back into the swing of things,” said Engstrom.
Salem senior Thomas Crawford placed 17 in boys’ long jump with a distance of 19 ft. 6.5 in.
Distance runner Derek Gielarowski, Plymouth senior, ran in the 3200m run placing 21 with a time of 10:14.42.
