May 31 is Park seniors’ last day of high school. There will be no actual classes for seniors, but a celebration for the graduating class.
Seniors will begin their day at 7:30 a.m. in their home school, where they will turn in their class cards before sitting down in each cafeteria for a staff-served breakfast. Following breakfast, each senior will receive their cap and gown.
To celebrate the end of high school, there will be a senior field day off campus. It will be just like field day in elementary school with jump ropes, hula hoops, soccer balls and water balloons.
Park principal Bill Zolkowski and Salem assistant principal Jerry Sullivan are assisting in the planning of the event, along with NHS advisors Rebecca Kraft and Beth Savalox. The event itself, however, will be parent-run and student planned.
Sign up for field day will begin soon and the number of participants will be limited. If seniors choose not to sign up on a team, but still wish to go to field day, they can do so. These seniors, however, will only be audience members and will not be able to participate in the events. There will be snacks and beverages for participants and onlookers.
Seniors should plan to sign up in teams of 15-20 people.
Field day will end before school dismissal, with everyone gathered together for prizes. Students will be more than welcome to hang around the park after, but will be responsible for themselves.
Sullivan and Zolkowski are looking forward to making these plans an annual end of the year tradition for seniors.
If any parents would like to help run the event (i.e. running stations, running concessions) or would like to help prior to the event, please contact Lucy Wildman at wildman1304@gmail.com.
