Currently in third place with 17 points in the Cap-6 tournament, the men’s golf team is able to advance to the regional conference. Millbrook is currently in first place with 19.5 points and Wakefield is in second place with 17.5 points.
“We are on a role and have momentum,” said Phil Ratliff, coach.
The men’s golf team is broken into two groups: the purple and gold teams. Travis Caldwell, Bo Yang, Harrison Kaylor, Ward Minton, Evan Willingham, Sam Stephenson, Bryce Aronson are the players that make up the purple team. The gold team consists of Matt Day, Cameron Harrell, Braxton Fonville, Will Farabow, and Chris Carlino.
Though the team’s home course, The Carolina Country Club, reopened April 1, the team will not be able to hold matches or tournaments there for the rest of the season.
“Though we don’t have a course now, I’m anticipating that we will have one next year,” said Ratliff.
As the season progresses, Ratliff will choose the four leading players from the purple team, the highest scorers, to compete in conference tournament, and then in the NCHSAA regional on May 2. The other two players from the purple team still have a chance to qualify.
“We’re all practicing hard to get ready for the conference tournament,” said Matt Day, senior.
“Best and most experienced players will go to the Conference,” said Ratliff.
