A hippo moseys about looking for food. A giraffe lifts its towering neck to see pointing children. These are common sights at the Sedgwick County Zoo. Besides the sometimes overwhelming smell of dirty animals, it is overall a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
Walking up to the front entrance it can be seen that the zoo is clearly well kept. Even beyond the front entrance, the entire park is well kept and clean. It becomes obvious how the zoo can afford such a clean environment when the price is given for entering the zoo. It is $11 for an adult and $6.50 for kids 3-11. But considering that Warren theater charges $9 for a two hour movie, and visiting the zoo is an all day affair, the price is not too unreasonable. However, if visiting for the entire day make sure and bring food and drinks because those prices can quickly double the cost to go to the zoo.
The zoo has recently added the penguin exhibit which is a must see if visiting. Also, starting May 22nd the zoo is adding a new ‘Tiger Trek’ exhibit with Amur and Malayan tigers.
The zoo is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. allowing for an all day trip which is necessary
to see all of the attractions.
