The Golden Tornado Football Team took the field for the first time September 3 with intensity, and no player had more fire than Aaron Amtower, Keyser’s returning inside linebacker who led the team in tackles last year with 101 tackles.
“We are doing well, but there is always room for improvement,” Amtower commented about the teams 4-1 record
Throughout the summer, not many players worked harder than the 6-2, 190 lb. linebacker, or his defensive teammate, MJ Twyman.
Twyman, a two-time all-state defensive end and second team all area fullback, played sparingly against Moorefield due to leg cramps, but managed to rush for 90 yards and 1 touchdown, and 101 yards and a touchdown against Petersburg, before setting a school record 6 touchdowns and rushing for 263 yards against Beall.
Twyman and Amtower both are returning starters from last year’s defense, which helped Keyser outscore opponents 267-108, and were All-PVC selections. Both also will be looked upon to anchor this year’s defense, which seems to be picking up the torch from last year’s team.
So far the Golden Tornado have outscored opponents 158-38, and have pitched two shut outs.
Derrick Harman has come on strong at the haflback position, where he rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns against Hampshire in the 41-8 homecoming victory.
With the boys and girl in black and gold staring down a daunting schedule which includes games with Loyola, Allegany, and Frankfort, Keyser is confident they can overcome any adversities that come their way.
