The annual Mr. East pageant always proves to be an enjoyable event, and this year's competition was no exception. Mr. East 2005 was a sold-out show, with profits benefiting the tsunami relief fund and various other charities. Well-organized and delivered, there was no shortage of laughs as the 11 boys and four chairladies took to the stage.

Chairladies Samantha Isdaner ('05), Samantha Inselman ('05), Toby Steinberg ('05) and Lisa Zhu ('05) opened the show with a skit about what it would be like if there were a Ms. East competition. Needless to say, we won’t be crowning a Ms. East anytime in the near future.

With talents ranging from ballet dancing to beat-boxing, the contestants showed off their various skills to the East community. Right from the opening dance number, it was apparent that long hours had gone into making Mr. East 2005 such an impressive production.

The swimwear, formalwear, talent and question and answer segment helped both the audience and judges get a sense of all the contestants. As the night drew to a close, one thing was clear: crowning a Mr. East 2005 would prove to be a difficult task.

The judges, all former East students, awarded the title of Mr. East to Matt Kauth ('05), for his excellent job as Mr. Casual Friday. His talent included a personally-made film as well as a full choir. Second place was awarded to Mr. V.I.P, Vipul Kumar ('05), for his talents of playing the saxophone and extremely impressive beat boxing. Third place went to Brad Silnutzer ('05), Mr. B-Nutz-4-Me, for his hilarious sketch and stand-up comedy.

As usual, the Mr. East competition proved again how many talented members there are every year in the senior class. And once again, it also proved you don’t really need to have a talent to enter, just a sense of humor and possibly a pair of tights.
