Fifteen WSHS graduates were selected by the Willow Springs Scholarship Club to receive a scholarship to help with their education expenses this Fall.  WSSC is giving  three types of scholarships this year, five $3000 tuition only scholarships, ten $700 textbook scholarships, and two $3000 scholarships for continuing study in 2009-10.   The students receiving $3000 scholarships this year and students who have received a Textbook Scholarship and completed their Associate Degree or equivalent, will be eligible to apply for the continuing study scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year.


The $3000 tuition scholarships will be presented at the WSHS Alumni Banquet, May 23 in the Munford Gymnasium.   The WSSC Landmark Bank Scholarship will go to Ryan Pilcher, son of Mr. & Mrs. Richard Pilcher.  Ryan plans to study Pharmacy at Southwest Baptist University.   The WSSC Don Northway/Shelter Insurance Scholarship will be awarded to Lindsey James, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Matt James, who will be going to Cottey College and will study Speech Pathology.  The WSSC Ann Andreas Scholarship will go to Sara Johnson, daughter of Mrs. Sara Johnson.  Sara will  go to the University of Missouri to study Veterinary Medicine.  Alyssa Ranes, will receive the WSSC Megan Kaye Spence Scholarship.  Alyssa, the daughter of Ms. Elizabeth Gilbert, will study biology at MSU-Springfield.  The WSSC Business & Community Scholarship will be awarded to Shakara Boles, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Tommy Boles.  Shakara will go to Crowley’s Ridge College and major in Elementary Education. 

The Edward L. Kahre Educators’ Textbook Scholarships of $700 each are named in honor of Mr. Kahre  and all who have been teachers in Willow Springs Schools.  Students receiving  $700 textbook scholarships are:  Dylan Carter, Quencie Colley, Anthony Combs,  Andrew Coursen, Stephen Fetrow, Josh Hicks,  Ethan Leighty,  Whitley McDaniel, Shelby Scaggs, and Kameron Wake. 


WSSC will give a total of $28,000 in scholarships this year.  Funding for the scholarships comes from memberships, gifts, memorials and sponsors.  2009 WSSC Scholarship Sponsors include:  $3000 level - Jim & Judy Vokac of Willow Ann-Tiques & More; $2000 level -  Landmark Bank;  $500 level - First Baptist Church, White Industries, Dr. Robert & Janet Shaw, and Vance Cover;   $250 level - Bailey Chevrolet Pontiac-GMC, Coastal Energy, Community First Bank-West Plains, Dan & Connie Corman,  Friga Tire, G & W Foods, Ingomar Lodge #536 A.F. & A.M., KUKU ‘Oldies 100’, Law Office of Steve Privette, Lee’s Tires, Sonic Drive-In,  US Bank, Waggoner True Value Home Center, Wake Feed & Fertilizer, West Plains Bank & Trust, Willow Funeral Home, Drs. Lewis & Orchard - Willow Springs Animal Health Center.   $100 level - John & Jeanie Beltz - Beltz Farms, Bryan’s Four Seasons Heating & Cooling, Ferguson Drug, FW Chapter PEO, Jasper Engines & Transmissions,  McDonalds of Willow Springs, Pitts Computer Services, Dr. Tom & Jeanette Rouse-The Animal Clinic of Willow Springs,  Dr. Matthew Mansfield – Willow Springs Dental, Willow Springs CTA Local MSTA Chapter, Willow Springs Education Association,  Donald & Hazel Grant, and Buddy Stuart.  Contributions for scholarships may be sent to WSSC at P.O.
