Beep, Beep, Beep- the sound of your alarm clock telling you it's time to wake up.

"I feel tired and exhausted," said Ray Stookey, junior.

He has slept in class when his instructor was talking to the class, and was asked to answer a question when his name was called.

He also slept while taking a quiz or a test, and always asleep in first block, but has never slept while changing classes.

But in college, a student has the power to choose what class he or she signs up for. You could start at 10 a.m. and still be through for the day at 2 or 3 p.m., as opposed to high school, when you have to be in your desk by 7:15, a time when most are still deep in R.E.M. cycles.

"I want class to start at 8," said Ray Stookey,"On the weekend, at the time, I am asleep."

"The worst time I slept in class was reviewing for a test," said Victoria Flowers, sophomore,"because it was boring and half the class was asleep."

As a high school student, she slept through most of her first block and has also slept while taking a quiz or a test, and has slept while her instructor talked to the class because she was tired.

"I want class to start at 8," said Victoria Flowers,"because I will have more time to sleep so I won't sleep in school."

"I want class to start at 10:30," said Juanita Patino, sophomore. "I am awake in first block and never slept while taking a quiz or test."

She said the worst time she slept was reviewing for a test.

She also said she doesn't get enough sleep; she goes to sleep at 11.

"The worst time I slept in class was taking test in geometry," said Enrique Ross, sophomore, in which he got 18 out of 30 cause he was tired.

He said he sleeps in class cause the work at home, homework, and other stuff.

He is either asleep or awake in his first block and wants class to start at 8:30. But JCM teachers do their best to keep students' attention, despite the early hours.

"I keep my students awake by keeping them interested," said Mr. George Holland, US History teacher.

He disciplines his students by talking to them outside of class and doesn't write them up.

He said it takes a few seconds to wake his students by tapping them gently.

"Yes, the additude is different from first and fourth," said Mr. Holland, "fourth block is louder and active, first is more involved in the lessons."

"I wake my students by shaking their shoulder or get students around them to wake them," said Miss. Ansleyv Yawn who teaches Algebra II and Pre-calculus.

She keeps her students from falling asleep by trying to be weird.

She disciplines students by lowering their participation grades, another thing that will be in the past when students are in college.
