On April 21, the Saturday following April vacation, members from the Green Team organized an eco-friendly day to motivate children at the Abington Public Library.
The Green Team President, Megan McHugh, said “the primary goal was to make sure the kids had a blast while learning about dangers that threaten our environment and how to help prevent them.”
The day was filled with activities the kids could participate in that were both fun and educational. A member of the Green Team, Nick Morrison, read “The Lorax” to the whole group of children who attended. Following that, Green Team members divided and set up several stations. A craft activity allowed kids to make picture frames out of recycled materials, in addition to that
there was a recycling relay race and a station for kids to plant their own sunflowers and take them home in milk cartons.
It proved to be a very successful day with a turnout of twenty-nine kids, the largest turn out the library has ever had. This was very inspirational for the kids to learn the ways to help the environment in preparation for Earth Day.
Megan McHugh stated “We had a lot of fun and the kids did too. Overall, it was definitely successful.”
