The Varsity Squad talks and prepares for the long day ahead at Meadow Lake Golf Course. - Cole Neuner
Ever since the season started March 19th at Linn, the Comets have taken 3rd at New Bloomfield, 1st at South Callaway, and edged out California by one stroke to finish 2nd on April 2nd at California. The Varsity squad played with the Linn Varsity squad to compete in the County Cup. The County Cup is a competition where two teams from each county play with each other and plays against the other counties. The Varsity one and two players play their own ball, the Varsity three and four players play best ball, (the players play the hole on their own and after the hole is finished, the two players take the best score from that hole.) Then the Varsity five players scramble together, (they play the best shot.) The Fatima/Linn Squad won the County Cup with a 546 to beat out Moniteau County by 44 strokes.
The Varsity has also played in the Southern Boone Classic last Wednesday, Dusty Angerer (12) shot an 81, followed by Connor Muenks (11) with an 89, Cole Neuner (12) finished the day with a 90, Zach Boeckmann (12) pulled through with a 107, and Matt Eisterhold (12) came in with a 131. The Varsity squad also played Monday at Meadow Lake, Dusty shot an 86, Connor shot a 94, Cole Shot a 97, Nathan Luebbering (11) shot a 109, and Zach Bradley (10) shot a 113. Tuesday at Owensville Dusty shot a 36, Cole Shot a 39, Matt and Zach shot a 43 and Connor shot a 40. Wednesday at Redfield for Conference, Dusty medaled 3rd with a 79, Connor also medaled with an 86, Cole shot a 92, Zach shot a 99 and Matt shot a 105. At the Linn meet, Dusty shot a 38, Connor with a 39, Cole shot a 42, Zach turned in a 43, and Matt carded a 46. Districts on the other hand, Dusty took 3rd with an amazing 73 and Connor took 12th with an 85 and they both move on to Sectionals. Cole carded a 95, Matt an 94 and Zach carded a 100.
I predict that Dusty will place in the top 5 at the State meet and Connor will place in the top 25 at State. The golf team has had a pretty good season, but the Varsity Squad continues to practice and prepare for the hardest golf match of the season, the ever looming districts. After Districts, The Comets move even closer to State, stroke by stroke
