Students
who purchase lunch at the high school will follow a different procedure
after recent changes. They will pay for lunch but they will also have
to type in their specific ID number on a keypad which will show their
school picture and how much money is in their account.
Principal
Bill Evans says that the system was implemented because, “The system
encourages students to prepay, and if they do, the lines will move more
quickly.” It also eliminates lunch tickets, so students will no longer
be identified as having financial hardship in any way because that
information will be in the computer and not on a piece of paper.
While
the lunch system is supposed to help buying lunch become faster,
students at the high school have said otherwise. Sophomore Riley Baker
says that he does not buy lunch because it takes away half of your
lunchtime just to wait in line and buy lunch.
Sophomore Alyssa Sawyer likes the new lunch system because its easy and
you don’t have to worry about losing your lunch ticket.
Evans
says that the only thing that he would want to change about the system
is to give parents the ability to pay electronically using their credit
card.
