Masses of Canadian fans decked in red and white and sporting their nations symbol, a maple leaf, screamed their relief after Crosby scored the final goal on Team USA , resulting in a 3-2 lead over the USA and team Canada ultimately winning the gold medal of the 2010 Olympic Games.
Before I continue, I’ll make something clear. I don’t watch sports. Personally, I don’t find them interesting at all and the mere mention of watching sports makes me shutter. Literally.
However, the Olympics seem to boost their own category. The international events have always set a rational pause on global corruption. It's a moment for countries to unite for competitions boasting incredible athletics, worth-while entertainment and above all, good sportsmanship. And, of course, the USA hockey team has been plotting revenge after team Canada beat them for the gold on their own turf in 2002 at Salt Lake City. Tensions were high at this year's Olympic games and it captured the attention of almost every citizen of the two great nations - Canada and the USA.
Now, team USA already had beat Canada 5-3 during tournament play.
What I find so difficult to understand, is how Canada could win the title after team USA was undefeated through to the gold medal round, while team Canada suffered an embarrassing blow losing to team USA. So they beat us in the gold medal round. Barely. The game was sent into overtime and with the score being tied, team USA could have won the gold medal- remaing undefeated throughout the Olympic games. However, team USA had a slip up and the puck found a way past team USA 's goalie, Ryan Miller.
Team Canada played great and team USA played just as unbelievably good. They were fast on the ice- much faster than team Canada and were playing so desperately that it would be hard not to see their concentration behind the masks. Team Canada played strong, with a good defensive and a couple of excellent sharp-shooters. It was a great game. Well, actually, it was the best game I’ve ever seen.
But I would say the score is even now; Canada lost once, USA lost once. But apparently team Canada is better than team USA because, well... they won the last game? We won the first game; how does that make a difference- between first and last? Pretty lame excuse if you ask me.
So, sorry Canada , no hard feelings but I would really say you didn't deserve the gold medal. At least not yet. In my view, I see a burly Canadian hockey player ripping away the gold medal pride from a certain disappointed goaltender.
So now that the score's even (well, technically speaking) how about a rematch? Or is team Canada too scared?
