Shelton's methods to help students understand and utilize their personal learning difference has made students realize their potential and growth. But does Shelton prepare students for college? Though Shelton is not known as a college preparatory school, it guides students individually to deploy their learning difference and conquer their individual academic obstacles such as tests, study methods, and organization. Some students, such as Nick Powell, Ben Abernathy, and Phillip Bouillion, believe that Shelton has not prepared them for college. Abernathy says, "We've been babied and sheltered in high school. Shelton has not taught me how to manage my time. Classes in college generally aren't going to be this small either." Senior Hira Prakash believes that Shelton has given her the tools to succeed but haven't challenged her academically. Many seniors have mixed feelings about Shelton's academic standpoint, but feel that Shelton has created opportunities to master their learning difference. Jenn Clay, a duel credit student at Collin College, believes that Shelton does just about everything that any other high school does to ensure that their students are prepared for college. She explains, "Being in both college and high school has shown me how much Shelton really has done for me. I am lucky because I still have the luxury to ask questions and have high school teachers help and advise. Shelton will only prepare you as much as you prepare yourself. As for the statement that Shelton doesn't give you time management skills? Oh, I didn't know other schools give their students more preparation than multiple schedules for you to fill in to manage your time for exam review week, give their students iCal, teach their students study and note taking skills that will work for their learning difference, and many other things unmentioned."
