British boy-band One Direction is gaining momentum in the U.S. - Taylor Lewis
What makes Big Time Rush beautiful?

On March 2, the Nickelodeon boy band “Big Time Rush” played at the George Mason Patriot Center. Many girls from Briar Woods High School attended this concert but not for the reason one would think.

The “Better with U Tour” featured three bands, but the headliner, Big Time Rush was unexpectedly not the band most girls were interested in seeing. Instead, British boy band One Direction was the biggest draw.

“The concert itself was great I really enjoyed the other performances, but I was mainly there to see One Direction,” said Christian Fowler, sophomore.

“I just wanted to see Harry from One Direction,” said Danielle Zimmet, sophomore.

When girls who went to the concert were asked if they had stayed for the headliner, Big Time Rush, most girls replied no. After the much anticipated performance of One Direction, the majority of the fans in the Patriot Center are said to have disappeared.

“I only went to see One Direction, so I saw little point in staying for the rest of the concert,” said Sara Ali, sophomore.

While many girls did leave after One Direction, the ones who did stay for the rest of the concert found them pleasantly surprised during Big Time Rush’s performance.

“My original plan was just to stay for One Direction, but then my friends and I decided to stay and I’m so glad we did,” said Fowler. “My friends and I ended up loving Big Time Rush’s performance, and I thought they were just as good as One Direction,” said Fowler.

It was said that during the concert it was very evident that One Direction was preferred over Big Time Rush.

“While I was at the concert I noticed that most girls who were there only had posters and t-shirts for One Direction, very few people had stuff for Big Time Rush,” said Zimmet. “I really felt bad for Big Time Rush because they really are a good band and I hope they didn’t feel too upstaged by their opening act,” said Zimmet.

“One-direction-mania” is a term that is used to describe the madness of the popularity of One Direction. The band has only been around for less than two years. While their popularity has seemed to have grown over night, The British boy band is a major hit in Britain, and the band is almost just as a big of a hit in the United States.
