Last week at Rocklin High School was Culture Week, where students and faculty alike examined the culture of the tropical islands of Hawaii. Many different types of events were hosted by the multi-cultural club ranging from handing out traditional Hawaiian food to a "Lilo and Stitch" movie night.

Senior Mallory Teresa, who enjoyed witnessing the event, said, "This is my favorite Culture week so far because it seemed to me that this was the most interactive one as well as the most fun activities so far. My favorite activity was the Hula dancers because they were extremely good and entertaining. Plus they reminded me of Shakira because their hips didn't lie."

While the events are meant to be entertaining for everyone, most people do not realize the planning it took to coordinate the week. Multi-cultural club president Joan Maninang attested to this, saying, "The hardest part of Culture Week is the planning involved, we have to coordinate the schedule of meetings around the group members' personal events."

When questioned about the success of the event, Maninang said, "This was probably the most successful culture week in all of the years I have been here. This is probably due to the fact that we had much more money this year to do a grant, which allowed us to plan a bigger, more entertaining event where more people participated."

The participation of last week's event was also due to the granting of extra credit by some of Rocklin High School's teachers. This provided an extra incentive for students to really get involved. In each aspect that the student participated in, they were rewarded one stamp which for some teachers could be counted as extra credit.
The schedule was as follows:

Monday: Paradise and Leis (Parade cancelled due to weather predictions.)
Tuesday: Information Day (Students learned of the history and culture of Hawaii.
Wednesday: Dress-up Day (Everyone encouraged to wear Hawaiian garb.)
Hawaiian Games (Lunch time activities.)
Thursday: Hawaiian Food (Students could sample traditional Hawaiian food.)
Movie Night ("Lilo and Stitch" was played for the students.)
Friday: Hawaiian dancers (Performances by Hula dancers.)

All in all, Hawaiian Culture Week provided an entertaining and informative week of fun.
