Rocklin High School’s Biology Teacher, Mrs. Shannon Jimenez, recently took part in an episode of Discovery Channel’s popular show, Mythbusters.
Mythbusters is a TV show that focuses on popular beliefs, such as internet rumors and other myths, and performs various experiments in order to rate the myths as “busted,”
“plausible,” or “confirmed.”
While Mythbusters has been airing episodes for about nine years they may be most recently known in Northern California for the cannonball accident, where the crew accidentally sent a cannonball through the side of a house and into a minivan in a Dublin, CA neighborhood.
The show has about two million viewers and is usually filmed at various locations around the San Francisco bay area, but some elements of the production are done in Australia.
Mrs. Jimenez has been a dedicated fan of Mythbusters since the show first aired in 2003.
“I became interested in the show because I love science,” said Jimenez.
Mrs. Jimenez was a volunteer on the show and assisted with various parts of the episode. She got the volunteer position on Mythbusters through their Facebook page. As their fan on Facebook, she saw that they were looking for volunteers, so she emailed them and ended up getting the position.
The episode was filmed on May 2nd and 3rd but will not air for three to six months. Because the episode has not aired yet, Mrs. Jimenez is unable to disclose the details of the episode.
“I can’t say what my role was in the episode and I don’t even know if the myth was busted or not. All I can say is that it is about airplanes” said Jimenez.
