Tianna holding her belly 3 monthes into pregnancy. - Samone Molock
Pregnant, working, and a full time student is a lot to balance at the age of 15, and knowing that your baby’s father may or may not be in your baby’s life makes everything even worse. Welcome to the daily life of Harrison student Tianna Greathouse. Tianna is currently 3 months pregnant and no longer has the option to get an abortion. When she first found out that she was pregnant she didn’t believe it
“I was laughing, I didn’t believe it was true,” Tianna said, but just as most young mothers do this laughter is followed by crying. Waking up every day and knowing that your life is changed forever because you are now in the process of bringing a new life into the world. With the support of her closest friends and mother Tianna chose to keep the baby, but having a baby comes with many responsibilities and is very expensive
“I hope to get a lot of help,” Tianna said. Knowing that it is going to be tuff as a single mother to provide for her child she is up to the task and willing to do anything she can so that her child will have a good life.
But will Tianna and the baby be ok without the involvement of the father? For many mothers young and old this is an often occurrence.
“He doesn’t understand what I’m going through, he doesn’t acknowledge that it’s his child,” Tianna said as the tears come streaming down her face. Staring eyes as you walk down the hall way, rumors being spread like wild fire, friends that turn their back on you are some of the things that Tianna experiences daily. Even though these things impact her in the most hurtful ways she continues to come to school every day, and tries her hardest. With the baby due May 8, 2010 and her graduation year being 2011 she still plans to finish school and go to college.
