(June 8, 2012) -- The hungry seniors had to sit through the panorama photo on Oct. 14 while the aroma of grilled hot dogs and quesadillas wafted through the amphitheatre. Seniors knew if they didn’t cooperate and listen to yearbook editors Anna Asatryan and Randi Robins while they tried to rearrange them on the amphitheater steps, they would have less time to enjoy the lunch teacher Randy Tiffany and others were preparing.

After 20 minutes of relative chaos, they finally settled down and managed to form into the shape of a number 12 representing their graduating class. Photography teacher Kelly Brinker captured this Kodak moment and then let them go crazy one more time and took pictures of them just being seniors.

After getting that over with, it was finally time for their senior barbecue where they could finally spend some time off from their busy schedules to kick back with friends. Even though they were on school grounds, nothing stopped them from having fun. “It was a great way to kick off the senior year,” Ani Nazaryan said. “It was a cute way to get us all together.”

Along with the hot dogs and quesadillas, seniors enjoyed Mexican candy and ice cream. Others waited to fill their plates with nachos covered in cheese or their cups with ice-cold lemonade. “There was good food and all the parent/teacher volunteers were nice,” Leon Shishoian said.

Decorations consisted of colorful sombreros and beaded necklaces with dangling red chili peppers. Alice Gabrielyan took home one of the sombreros and now has it hanging in her bedroom. The piñata was a nice touch, but students were upset that they couldn’t get the prizes trapped inside after Principal Doug Dall stopped them from breaking it open due to safety precautions. However, with the loud music playing to match the fiesta theme, the issue was soon forgotten and the area was full of smiling students.

All of a sudden, a group of 15 senior guys stood on the concrete wall, lifted up their black polo shirts and exposed the writing on the plain white tees they were wearing underneath. It was David Grigorian’s idea to do the actual lettering to spell out “¡Men in Black ‘12!”

“We always try to make the most out of everything at school, so this seemed like a good plan,” Shant Shabandari said. Everyone formed a crowd around them as they revealed the message. Shabandari said he and his friends wanted to do something that would make them stand out in pictures, creating a more memorable experience.

Gabrielyan was happy with how the day turned out, but she was happier with all the pictures they had taken. Gabrielyan said it was something they can look back on and the pictures would always remind them of the great memories.
