Each Spring offers an exciting opportunity to be a part of the school musical. This year, Marcos is performing the musical “All Shook Up”. From start to finish, the production takes about three months of hard work and dedication.

Auditions are just the start of being a part of the musical. Some students are new to the process, but for others, auditioning is an annual event. Junior Martina Hercel auditioned for Lucky Stiff, High School Musical, and All Shook Up. Although she wasn’t in the cast of the first two musicals, her persistence landed her a role in the ensemble of “All Shook Up”.

Senior Cody Strong auditioned for this year’s musical for the first time. “I was always too scared to audition,” he said. This year he didn’t let his nerves get the best of him. With big competition, Strong knew he had to perform his best to make it. “ I was pretty satisfied with my auditions,” he added.

In the end, he came out on top. Strong earned the lead role of Chad, the rock and roll heart throb of the town. With a role like this, having confidence is a must. “I would say even if you’re nervous, try out for things like musicals. You make new friends and become a more confident person,” said Strong.

Senior Hannah Mirizio has high expectations for this year’s musical. Being in High School Musical last year, Mirizio has experience on the stage. “It’s a lot of practice and hard work, but at the end of the day, the musical is so much fun,” Mirizio said.

Last year’s choreographer, Amanda Paige, pushed everyone to their limits by creating difficult dances and lifts. The new choreographer, Lynzee Forman, is already impressing both the students and the directors.

Forman is both an actress and dancer at Arizona Broadway Theatre. She has been around the Valley for many years and enjoys performing. She has been in the ensemble of various shows including Hairspray, RENT and The Rocky Horror Show.  She is currently performing in Singing in the Rain while investing six hours a week to choreographing “All Shook Up.”

The musical will perform March 7-12. More information about tickets and times will be released as the dates draw near.
